Fig & Flower is one of the very first retailers we've had. Both PiperWai and Fig & Flower were founded in 2014, which makes our relationship special. The shop carries all-natural, eco-friendly beauty products that range from skincare to makeup and hair and body products.
We spoke with Fig & Flower owner, Sara Lamond about her shop and when our relationship began.
How did you hear about PiperWai?
When Fig & Flower opened in 2014, we were working with a PR agent who was also representing PiperWai, which is how the brand first got on my radar.
What was your first impression when you tried it?
I had done my research looking for the most reliable natural deodorants for our store, and every product had wildly varied results. Some items worked, but irritated the skin. Others only held up for a few hours and then needed reapplication. And some of the items we tried worked great for some people and not for others.
My impression of PiperWai after using it for a few days was that these women had created something very special. The formula worked phenomenally without irritation or reapplication. I even had my husband try it and he was sold, too. The scent is gender neutral, great for everyone, and the formula performs even for both of us as athletes.
When did you start carrying PiperWai?
Fig & Flower started carrying PiperWai immediately after that trial in 2014. I believe we were one of the very first retailers!
What about PiperWai made it a must-have in your store?
Deodorant is a hard category for people to transition to a natural alternative. Firstly, people have become accustomed to antiperspirants. So the idea that you might feel a little sweatier already turns some people off. And then many of the natural formulas either cause irritation or don’t prevent odor. It was a struggle for us to meet our customers' expectations in this arena.
Despite the uphill battle, I had lots of customers wanting to make the switch because they’ve heard about how potentially harmful antiperspirants are.
So when PiperWai created a product that worked for the vast majority of my customers without irritation, without reapplication, and was loved by men and women alike, it quickly became a staple at our store.
How has it been received by your customers?
Since we brought it in, it has consistently been our best selling product. I joke that we are a deodorant store that also carries makeup.
"Sometimes doing my best means I’m a green goddess of spiritual well-being, meal prepping and meditating and breaking personal bests in running. And sometimes it just means only eating one full sleeve of Thin Mints for dinner, as opposed to both. What I’m capable of giving to wellness journey changes depending on what’s going on in my life, and being flexible is part of how I define self-care."
Why do you think your customers enjoy PiperWai so much?
In a sea of products that haven’t worked for people, PiperWai performs.
You started incorporating more natural, clean foods and products into your life nearly a decade ago. Could you tell us about the change you noticed when you switched up your lifestyle?
My journey to being a healthier, more informed consumer has happened incrementally over many years, so it’s hard to pinpoint it as a single moment in time. But, to sum it up, I’ve always been committed to self improvement, which I see as a three-fold, mind-body-spirit endeavor, which all interact. When I do my best toward improving my health, engaging in fitness, eating clean, and making socially responsible choices, I feel better.

You became Atlanta’s first all-natural, nontoxic eco-beauty bar with the most expansive selection of green beauty brands available in one boutique.with your business partner, Blair. How does it feel to be a trailblazer in your industry and in your city?
I’m just grateful to have the opportunity to serve my community. I think what Fig & Flower offers - healthy, natural cruelty-free beauty products that perform --is of real value. I love having the opportunity to educate consumers and geek out over the newest beauty products. Helping people find a routine that works for them is a privilege and it’s so rewarding to hear how people’s skin and health improve when they make the switch.
When you’re not running a business, what do you enjoy doing?
Running, actually! I’m an avid runner and enjoy tackling new challenges in running (breaking a personal best, trying a new race, etc.) Usually running also means time spent with my best girl, my dog Gracie. I also have three amazing nieces - all under the age of five - and going to visit them in NYC or Asheville is always a high priority when I have the time. And any time spent with my husband is the best part of my day.
Do you have any hidden talents or fun facts about yourself you can share?
Many of my customers are surprised to learn that I’m actually an attorney! I hadn’t found my way in the legal world when the opportunity to open Fig & Flower arose. Plus, being a beacon of wellness and pretty things sounded far more delightful than practicing law.
