It's Time for Self-Care

By: Arnelle Pierre-Louis

Self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s well-being and happiness, especially during periods of stress

As many of you know, we at PiperWai are big advocates for self-care. It is extremely important to us that every person takes the time to truly make sure that they are okay. We also know that sometimes (or many times) people advocate for self-care but often forget to check in with themselves. So the question is; What are some ways that we can practice self-care? Here are a few examples that we were able to come up with.

Sitting and doing absolutely nothing!

Being able to relax your mind and not have to think about work, school, etc. is one of the best ways to relax. You can sit in your pajamas and watch movies all day, read that book you got 6 months ago, or just catch up on some sleep. Taking a break from the fast pace of your routine can do wonders for your mood, and productivity.

Try something new!

Get out of your comfort zone! Go ahead and try that activity that you have been putting off for one reason or the other. Stepping out of your comfort zone is an exhilarating experience. You gain new memories and you get to discover new things about yourself that you probably did not realize. Get out of your head and take that leap. Encourage yourself, and just try. It’s better to just do it and gain a new experience than to ask “what if?”

Mini Spa Treatment

Going to the spa, getting a nice massage or facial, get your nails done, etc. is highly encouraged! However, if you don’t want to spend too much (because let’s be honest, it can get a bit expensive) have a mini spa day at home. Put on a mask, do your nails, or simply run a lavender bubble bath (if you have a tub or like bubble baths).

Take a Social Media/Internet Break

We love social media, but sometimes even we need to take a break and just truly experience life. We all want to watch the latest funny dog video or see what our favorite celebrities are up to, but that can always wait. Sometimes putting the phone down and seeing what is happening can give you the recharge that you need.

These are only a few things that you can do when it comes to practicing self-care. These are not the only things that you can do though! The point of self-care is doing things that protect YOUR happiness and sanity. Just always make sure that the self-care that you practice is healthy and helps you grow into the best version of you.
