4 Tips For Working From Home

By Arnelle Pierre-Louis

In the next coming weeks, many of us have had to shift from working in the office to working at home. We at PiperWai are grateful that the infrastructure of our company allows us to work from home. However, we understand that not many people are used to working remotely. There are a lot more distractions at home versus being in your office and many people wonder if they can pull this off successfully. Thanks to many amazing platforms and bloggers, we’ve been able to compile a few tips that might help you guys out!

Create an alternate morning routine

Since you don’t have to travel for work, there are a few things that you can do to fill in that time. One alternative would be to use the extra time to get some extra sleep in. Especially if you are used to waking up early just to start your commute. Another alternative is to get that early morning work out in. There are so many workout apps that provide various workouts that are easy to do at home, like the one from Dasha Einhorn. For some, you won’t even need any extra equipment. Just a little space, water, and a charged phone.

Have a clean space to work in

You know the saying that when your space is clean and organized you’ll feel a lot better? Well, it’s absolutely true. When your space is cluttered, it can be hard to focus because there is so much stuff around. It can be unmotivating and possibly overwhelming which can cause a bit of anxiety. My advice, clean up your workspace and make it a warm, cozy space. A space where you’ll be able to focus on your work but also just relax in your home.

Shower and get dressed as if you are going to work

It’s easy to just want to stay in your pajamas or your favorite pair of sweatpants but sometimes being too comfortable can make getting the work down a little difficult. With as many distractions as there can be in your home, being too comfortable may bring your productivity level low. So when getting dressed, you don’t have to dress up in your complete professional attire but maybe skip the sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt look for a pair of leggings/jeans and a simple t-shirt or for guys a t-shirt and a pair of joggers/jeans.

Take plenty of breaks

Just like you would at the office, taking a break while working from home is important. Especially be sure to take a break for lunch. Close the laptop, stretch your legs, go for a walk or just step outside for a few minutes of fresh air. The breaks will help to give your mind a minute to recharge so that you can refocus on the work you have to do. All you’ll need is a 15-minute break to feel refreshed and ready to absolutely crush it!

These are just a few tips that you can follow to help make your working from home experience better. There are benefits to working in your own space. You are comfortable and at peace which can help get your creative juices flowing.  Who knows? Maybe, being home during this time can help you create something new or allow you to work on the project that you’ve been putting off.
