As summertime sneaks up, so do the temperatures, and longer days mean more time to be active outdoors. This is the best time of year to get sweaty, but a lot of folks worry about how they’ll smell at the end of a long, scorching summer day. We’ve got some tips to help optimize your PiperWai usage and keep cool and confident all season.
Most folks have either heard of or personally experienced a deodorant emergency. Despite putting deodorant on in the morning, by afternoon or evening your body’s natural scent has broken through and you are now extra sweaty and no longer odor free, often in the most embarrassing of circumstances. (Cut to the conference room, mid-meeting, in front of your boss.) The trouble here is that we are blaming the wrong cause for this dip in efficacy: odor is caused by bacteria and pH imbalances,
We suggest paying attention to your body as the weather and your schedule changes. , but one of our favorite parts of PiperWai is that it works with your body in a variety of ways to neutralize odors instead of just covering the odors up. Seriously!
The next time you’re feelin’ (or smellin’) funky, give your jar a good squish and smear some on your pits — you’ll be surprised at how quickly the odor diminishes and is replace by your favorite spa-like scent. Because we know PiperWai to be so reliable in these situations, we recommend reapplying midday or as often as you might need, especially after swimming, working out, bathing, or a particularly stressful event.
Every body is different, and you’ll know your individual needs best. Just remember that a little bit goes a long way and to apply with dry hands to dry pits, which may require a quick wipe with a tissue or towel before rubbing in.
If you’re still on the verge of a deodorant emergency, we suggest rebalancing your underarm’s pH levels with this quick and easy at-home process:
Combine equal parts apple cider vinegar and water (a tablespoon of each should be plenty). Apply this once daily prior to applying PiperWai, holding your arms up to allow it to dry completely first. After 1-2 weeks, you can wean your underarms off the ACV mixture.
Our team swears by this treatment and a few folks even keep the rebalancing as part of their regular routine, giving their armpits a bit of of a tuneup every few weeks.
Storage and Shelf Life
Both of our deodorants are made with all-natural ingredients and no artificial stabilizers. This means the ingredients may separate over time or in certain conditions, as you sometimes see with natural peanut butter, different types of cosmetics, or certain homemade products. We always recommend storing PiperWai upright in a cool, dark place away from direct light or heat, in a location that stays room temperature — around 73 degrees Fahrenheit.
PiperWai contains an all-natural preservative and has been professionally lab tested for shelf life. As with the majority of cosmetics, PiperWai should be used within six months of opening and should be opened within 12 months of purchase. To ensure this shelf life, always use clean, dry hands to apply PiperWai to clean, dry skin and be sure to put the lid back on after each use.
If you forget to put your lid back on, or happen to leave your jar or stick in a warmer spot, we have some troubleshooting options below that may help to restore your PiperWai.
When traveling with PiperWai, we suggest keeping the product in your carry on if possible, stored separately from clothing items and in its own container or pouch. Both the jar and the stick applicator are TSA-safe, and if you’d rather take a smaller amount than the whole container, simply place your little bit of PiperWai into an air-tight container and use as usual.
Looking for a travel pouch that will fit all your cosmetics and more? for your next order!
Some variation in color, texture, and scent is normal with natural ingredients and when the jar is transported, the product does sometimes separate or harden depending on the storage and transit conditions. This is because we do not use any artificial stabilizers in our products. Once you give it a very thorough mixing (or “squishing”) with clean fingers, the ingredients will be reincorporated, and you'll have a perfect, smooth jar of PiperWai.
Below is an example of how to squish your deodorant. If you prefer a creamier texture than that of a silky clay or putty, you can always add a couple drops of witch hazel or coconut oil while you mix until your preferred consistency is reached.
If your jar has separated due to high heat or exposure to sunlight and there is oil pooling in the center, we suggest popping your jar in the refrigerator for no longer than 30 minutes to help the jar set after following the above recommendations.
Our stick applicator can be a little trickier to troubleshoot, but we do have some recommendations for specific circumstances.
For example, if your order has been waiting in the mailbox or on your porch on a hot summer day, we recommend putting the stick applicator in your refrigerator, upside down, before opening the stick applicator for the first time for about one hour. This will help the stick applicator return to its intended shape and consistency if it has been affected in transit.
The above trick may also work if your stick applicator softens or melts after its first use, but if you have any concerns about the storage or shipping conditions, we encourage trying the jar through summer or picking up a stick applicator from a local retailer instead.
We hope this information helps! You have enough to sweat over during summer months, the last thing we’d want you to stress about is your deodorant. If you’re worried about your order being affected by the hot summer sun, we suggest checking out to see if there are any local retailers you might be able to purchase PiperWai from in the warmer seasons.
